This weekend it is the last Bank Holiday weekend of the year, and as well as there being many events up and down the Country, it is also the Notting Hill Carnival. This is the largest street festival in Europe, which started in 1964, for Afro-Caribbean communities to celebrate their cultures and tradition.
The Notting Hill Carnival is an amazing and vibrant event, with people dressing up in extravagant costumes or wearing rainbow pop wigs and neon multi-colour flower headbands, and dancing to an array of sounds.
The Notting Hill Carnival has grown since it first started in 1964, with its spectacle floats, which features calypso, mas and pan bands, as well as many sound systems for dancing. There is a large party atmosphere of music, movement and masquerade as well as Caribbean food stalls, which serve up traditional food, jerk chicken and fried plantain.
Ordinarily, the more family friendly Sunday is the best day to bring children to the Carnival, with the main parade being on the Bank Holiday Monday, This runs approximately 3.5 miles long, with steel bands playing to over 50,000 participants.
